THEORETICAL
The theoretical component of our program is designed to provide students—both business owners and their nominated employees—with a structured, engaging learning experience over a six-month period. Throughout this time, participants complete 120 assignments, each consisting of a brief 7 to 8-minute video followed by an online questionnaire. Progression is competency-based, requiring students to successfully complete each assignment before advancing to the next.
Our learner management system, MyEcampus, closely monitors each student’s progress, generating detailed reports for mentors. These reports allow mentors to address any learning challenges during their bi-weekly visits to the business, ensuring personalized support and guidance.
While this program is not a full learnership, students are accredited for the unit standards they complete, focusing on practical, outcome-based learning rather than traditional academic achievement. The real measure of success is in the tangible growth of the business, making this component a crucial step in our mission to empower SMEs through skills development.
PRACTICAL
The practical component of our program is an integral part of the mentorship curriculum, known as the Four “C’s.” The first “C” represents competency, where our focus is on ensuring students can effectively apply what they’ve learned online directly within their businesses. Whether it’s strategic planning, financial management, marketing, or other crucial skills, this hands-on approach helps drive real business growth.
Throughout the six-month period, each business is required to develop a ‘growth and expansion’ plan, with the top 5% qualifying for recognition at our annual reward ceremonies, where their achievements are celebrated. In addition to growth strategies, we emphasize the fundamentals, such as compliance, proper banking practices, and adherence to health and safety standards. We also ensure that businesses implement proper systems and methodologies, reducing wastage and optimizing profit margins, setting them up for long-term success.
For us and the small business, the crux remains whether they managed to double their turnover in the process. This outcome-driven focus ensures that the skills and strategies learned translate directly into measurable success, creating a sustainable impact on their growth journey.

To achieve an inclusive economy, we need to more effectively support the growth of vibrant and sustainable small, medium, and micro enterprises and cooperatives. SMMEs are at the heart of our economy.
